Atlanta Community Food Bank: Our Story

There is no excuse for poverty in our society today. I think poverty is
breed by greed. We have to pay for our own housing, food, and clothes to companies
that are making so much profit to fund their comfortable life styles. Just
because most of us do not have the immediate means or the immediate opportunities
to succeed financially as they do, should not mean that people should stress
even more to live comfortably. Everyone cannot live rich. Somebody has to live
poor for someone to live rich. Why not everyone live on the same playing field?
Oh wait, that is considered communism. Ugh! Why don’t the world just start over
for Pete's sake!

  1. I really enjoyed the quote at the beginning of this post! It would be so wonderful if everyone could be on the same playing field and have equal opportunities! This looks like a wonderful organization. Thank you for sharing.

  3. I appreciate your thoughts, but I'm going to take a different view. If everybody was on the same playing field that wouldn't necessarily be beneficial either. I say that with the thought of my own life in mind. I had to work to get to where I am today. And, I would have no reason to better myself if we would all be on the same playing field. I wouldn't need to excel by getting my master's because there wouldn't be exterior benefits. People wouldn't have to step up to the plate and work for anything. Now saying this, I understand that there may be troublesome circumstances that happen in life and we all may need extra help from time to time and I'm thankful for wonderful organizations such as the food bank you shared information about. I just do not see everybody being on the same playing field ever working as a beneficiary way of life.

  4. Kenya,

Suffice to say, I understand your sentiments as it relate to being on the same playing field. However, even if we all starting out on the same playing field, there would still be a possibility that some will excel more than others in various domains. Reason, we all have different abilities, talents and gifts. Also, many of us have aspirations and as well as fears. Moreover, life is made of choices, therefore, we must be cognizant as to how we decipher our inclinations and our destinations.

On the other hand, bad things sometimes happen to good people. Nevertheless, there is always hope. So, with that being said, we must always strive to excel to make our journey conducive.

Thanks for sharing the video with our class!

  5. Kenya,
You are right, no one should live in poverty in this day and age, especially not our young children. Food, housing, and clothes should always be affordable for everyone. Yes, there will be people and families who will need help. However, our world should not be this way.
    Thanks for sharing your resource
